In honor of the Tony for best revival

Why I love Matt Taibbi

He explains what a bumlicking ass-goblin is to the children confused about Hank Paulson's role in the financial crisis.

Torture, continued

As is often the case, Greenwald has a good take here on the unspeakable things being done in our name. Lakhdar Boumediene was held for as a terror suspect for eight years with no charges filed against him. And he was tortured. ABC had the presence of mind to interview Boumediene, which I'll post here.

For Dan G.

Chicken Tetrazzini!

I know it's old, but this never fails to make me laugh. Be sure to read Billz take at Red Steam.

Cool wedding invite

Takes customers away from paper invitations, which I favor, but still, kind of fun:

Tony Awards

Can't add too much to this from Andrew Osbourne at Screengrab In Exile, except my rant about the opening, which is not entirely in agreement with his assessment:

The Tony Awards committee and producers can rot in hell. WTF was that awful mashup opening? Poison? Really? Cole Porter is spinning like a turbine in his grave. And they're either all miked terribly or the sound tech should be fired. At least Liza's mike worked. F the Tony's. The world goes round indeed. Ok, the ending with the cast of Hair worked, but the sound still sucked.

And the cast of Hair is amazing in person.

Neil Patrick Harris rocks. Also.

As Dan says "A Spoonful of Awesome"

As my cohort Dan G. at wheresmymacandcheese points out, this guy is amazing. Dan has also shamed me into updating and maintaining my own blog, and I look forward to sharing content and opinion with he and the lovely Mary Beth.

Full of win

Ok, this has got to be the best takedown of the various right-wing blogospheres slime campaign against Obama. (h/t to Balloon Juice)

About that Palin incest joke...

I got into a heated discussion with a co-worker about this SNL skit yesterday. I saw the episode in question, and didn't even really remember the "joke" (although it is arguably more directed at the NYT itself), because the sketch was so terrible, which is true of just about everything on SNL these days except the openings.

Anyhow, my co-worker (a 50-something mother with an uber-conservative husband) looked like she was ready to blow when I went into my standard freedom of speech routine. I really couldn't understand the sensitivity, especially since these kinds of perceived attacks have nothing to do with the Obama campaign. Also, if the shoe was on the other foot, and Obama had a pregnant daughter, you can be sure the standards would be different (a co-worker even brought up the oft-cited reaction to Jamie Lynn-Spears' pregnancy as proof of this double standard- more evidence that we have gone way down the rabbit hole this campaign season).

Then I remembered something else this morning, about McCain's joke from 1998 about Chelsea Clinton:

"Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly? Because her father is Janet Reno."

I wonder if the level of outrage among conservatives was the same, especially since this joke was made by, oh, THE CURRENT REPUBLICAN NOMINEE FOR PRESIDENT. Somehow I doubt it.

Teh chickens have come home to roost.

Oh, and let's not forget this.

Palin, PT4

Ah, nothing like a little schadenfreude. Be sure to read the quote near the end from Howard Wolfson, former Clinton strategist, current Fox news analyist, and timeless jackass.

Palin, PT3

She's right at home with the Bush/Cheney crowd. Oh, and BTW, who's the celebrity?

Palin, PT2

For my money Chris Kelly, one of Bill Maher's writers, and blogger at the Huffington Post is one of the funniest people posting anywhere, as this May '08 post on Palin demonstrates.

It's on.

After such an amazing night last night, this is what the McCain folks have come up with to squash the bounce:

Not that anybody's reading, but...

Greenwald, again, on the Democratic National Convention. Here's what the FISA cave in is all about.

Project Runway

Yes, I'm hopelessly addicted to the show, and this season's premiere last night was no exception (it reminds me of those nerve wracking crits and annoying personalities in art school). For more dish on the show, you must go here. Oh, and Blayne? Looks like Barney Rubble with a coke habit.
